Krishna Tashi Palmo
Born on 15th April 1984, Krishna Tashi Palmo hails from Shipting village of Lahul & Spiti district in the northern state of Himachal Pradesh. She is a certified Thangka painter, trained at T.C.V. Tibetan Traditional Art School, Patlikulh under the aegis of her guru Shri Dorje Thandup. Tashi paints along with her husband Stanzin Nyantek, who is also a Thangka artist.
Growing up as a nature lover she finds joy and contentment when surrounded by colour. She gives life to the unheard, untold stories of her native place through her paintings. Her paintings are reflections of her beliefs. She also enjoys drawing contemporary art, portraits, landscapes and cartoons.
For Tashi paintings are the best expression of her thoughts and feelings. She also pens down short stories and poems. She has participated in exhibitions at Delhi Haat in 2014, Tribal Fair in Keylong – 2016 among many others. She regards the solo exhibition – ‘Krishna on Canvas’ in 2018 organized by SAVE Lahul & Spiti and the Language Department, as her first brush which also brought her into limelight.
Thangka paintings are sacred paintings and many religious conventions are attached to this art form. When Tashi started off learning this art she had to battle with a lot of those conventions which restricted women and people with disabilities to take it up. To become a student of this art was a challenge in itself. But Tashi did not let it weigh her down. With sheer hard work and persistence she proved her ability and became a ray of hope to anyone who was let down due to financial, gender or physical disability. She tries to create a positive mindset through her work for herself and also for others. She tries to incorporate emotions, spirituality, positivity and also her own story.
